After outgrowing the garage, the company moves to their first Mountain View location in Santa Clara, San Jose. Within the next few years, Google wins its first Webby Award voted by users, and the first 10 language versions of Google.com were released, more and more employees are added to Googles list, Google Images gets access to 250 million images, an archive of 500 million use net discussions, and international offices were opened. The amount of work that Google has accomplished over this last decade is exponential. The money that the company has raised, every different aspect of Google that has been launched, and the number of employees that Google has acquired is an accomplishment to say the least. [3]

Culture[edit]

Google strongly believes that it is the people that make the company what is it. The people that are hired are smart and determined, and have the ability to get the job done, whether if they have the experience from previous jobs or not. Google strives to be diverse, with all employees having a common goal and vision for the company, speaking dozens of languages, and maintaining an open culture. One of the visions the company has says it all itself, we hail from all walks of life. [4]

Google's Ten Things[edit]

Google first wrote ten things that they know to be true when it was first being developed. From time to time the company visits the list to make sure that they are staying true to what the company is. They are as follows:

  1. Focus on the user and all else will follow- Since the beginning, Google has focused on providing users with the best experience possible. They want to ensure that Google ultimately serves you.
  2. It’s best to do one thing really, really well- With one of the world’s largest research groups focused on solving problems, Google knows what to do and how to do it well.
  3. Fast is better than slow- Google knows that users may only have so much time when seeking an answer and want to get it to them right away. By making the website more efficient and increasing the speed, it continues to make it quicker and accessible for users.
  4. Democracy on the web works- Google search works because it relies on millions of individuals posting links on websites and working together.
  5. You don’t need to be at your desk to need an answer- With the world becoming progressively mobile, people want to access information wherever they are and whenever they need it.
  6. You can make money without doing evil- To ensure that Google is ultimately serving all users, there are a set of principles for advertising programs and practices.
  7. There’s always more information out there- Google made efforts to make more information available to users whether that was adding a phone number to look up a business directory and adding more HTML pages on the internet.
  8. The need for information crosses all borders- It is important that information can be accessed by the entire world, and in every language. Offices are in 60 countries and maintain more than 180 Internet domains.
  9. You can be serious without a suit- Google was built around the idea that work should be challenging and that challenge should be fun. Creative things are more likely to happen with the right company culture.
  10. Great just isn’t good enough- Being great is a starting point, not an endpoint. Goals are being set that may seem unrealistic at first, but that they can maintain in time through innovation. [5]
