The Halo 5: Guardians Original Game Soundtrack is the official soundtrack to the first-person shooter video game Halo 5: Guardians, developed by 343 Industries. The soundtrack was released worldwide digitally and physically on October 30, 2015.[2] It was also released for free on the SoundCloud account of 343 Industries on October 19, 2015.[3]

Production[edit]

Kazuma Jinnouchi was confirmed to be the composer of the soundtrack in June 2014,<TODO: neogaf ref is sufficient?> though work on initial drafts of the music had began as early as late November 2013. Around the same time the next year, recording had begun.[4]

Six tracks requiring a 30-person choir, including Halo Canticles and Covenant Prayers were recorded at the Rudolfinum's Dvořák Hall in Prague in 2015. The orchestral portions of the soundtrack were recorded at Studio One in Abbey Road Studios, London, over at least five trips.[5]

Both Tojima and Jinnouchi expressed their will to return to the series' original musical style after experimenting with the soundtrack of Halo 4. As such, traditional orchestral Halo motifs were used in the soundtrack, especially when portraying the returning Master Chief. In comparison, motifs developed for the Chief's rival, Spartan Locke, were more electronic and used more synthesizer with a driving rhythm, which Jinnouchi said was to capture the character's personality. Finally, Jinnouchi augmented the rhythmic synthesizer with the orchestra to alter the color and depth of the music.[5]

In an effort to seek "organic" sound sources, the team traveled to Iceland to record natural sounds, such as from wild horses. They also recorded the sounds of various materials, such as grass and bricks, dropping from a construction crane.
