Early Life

Edward Heffernan attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., where he received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics.[1] He then earned his MBA at Columbia Business School, graduating in 1986.

Career

Heffernan worked in corporate finance for First Boston and in a variety of merger and acquisition positions at Citicorp and First Data Corporation.

Heffernan joined Alliance Data in 1998.

From May 2000 until March 2009, Mr. Heffernan served as an executive vice president and chief financial officer of Alliance Data.[2]

Heffernan became CEO of Alliance Data in 2009; prior to that, he helped oversee several major initiatives to ensure the company's access to capital, including a $300 million offering of convertible senior notes and the negotiation of a new credit facility.[3]

As CEO, his "...goal is to build Alliance Data from a $5 billion company into a $10 billion Fortune 500 company with $1 billion in cash flow within four years.[4]
