John C Wokoma JP, DSSRS (1975) also known as Chief Hon. John Wokoma (Eze Omekwali Uvuawhu) is a Nigerian politician and business magnate. He belongs to the Peoples Democratic party[1] and is a statesman from Rivers State. He is the Chairman of Janus DE' Holdings which operates in Nigeria and The Gambia, Janus DE' Holdings spreads across Oil and Gas, Construction, Hospitality and Rice Mills. He is also a board member of the Oil and Gas giants Ardova Plc, partnering with Janus DE in the Recreation Energy Conservation Program.

Early Life and Education

Chief Wokoma was born into the Wokoma Royal Family of Ikwerre originally from Emohua Local Government Area, which the family has roots from the Ancient Kalabari Kingdom of Buguma. Wokoma attended the University of Port-Harcourt and graduated in 1994, obtaining a bachelor's degree in political science.

Political Career

Chief John started his political career in 2003, after getting a B.A in Political Science he started working with Engr Chukwuemeka Woke. From 2003 working with him until he was elected chairman of Emohua LGA in 2008, serving under him in various positions like SSA on special duties and was later promoted to the position of chief of staff to the chairman, because of his competence and unwavering loyalty. Shortly before the tenure of Engr Chukwuemeka Woke ended in 2011, he was appointed as the Special Assistant on Greater Port-Harcourt Affairs to the then Governor of Rivers State Rotimi Amaechi and he resigned on May 21, 2013, due to the then political developments in the state.[2] immediately he pledged loyalty to Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike. In 2014 he served as the secretary of the Grassroot Development Initiative the Apex political movement of Chief Barr Nyesom Wike and after Nyesom Wike was elected in 2015. Chief John was made the Interim Chairman of the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board From June 30 to December 24 when a substantive board was appointed by the Governor. He was made the Chairman of Emohua LGA on May 2016 and finished his tenure in December 2018. In March 2019 he was made the Special Adviser on Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority to Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike and the cabinet was dissolved on 22 May 2019.[3]In the Build-Up to his re-election he was made the Campaign Director General 2 and worked tremendously to ensure Nyesom Wike's re-election bid was successful.[4] In October He was sworn in as the Chairman of the Rivers State Roads Maintenance and Rehabilitation Agency after Governor Wike reconstituted the board, after several amendments.[5] On 27 October 2020 he was screened and confirmed as a member of Rivers State House of Assembly representing Emohua Local Government Area after the revolt against the former member by the LGA leadership and people.[6] He was elected Chairman House Committee on energy and natural resources. He contested the primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (Nigeria) in 2022 to represent Emohua LGA at the Federal House of Representatives (Nigeria) but lost to Elder. Boniface S. Emerengwa MFR.[7] On 18 November 2023 he was appointed as the Principal Private secretary (PPS) to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike CON, GSSRS, POS AFRICA, Life Bencher.

Business

Also being the Chairman and Co-Founder of Janus DE' Holdings which is a Giant in the Oil and Gas sector in Nigeria, spanning across the oil rich south south region (Niger Delta) and southwest region of the country, he has been chairman of Janus DE' Holdings since October 2022 after the leadership of the Holdings passed the leadership baton to him after securing the partnership with Ardova Plc in Recreation Energy Conservation Program rolling out to the south west region of the country by 2027 and to the south south region (Niger Delta) by 2029. The Janus DE' Holdings also focuses on Hospitality/Real Estate based in the metropolis of Port Harcourt City, and its Construction based in Elele of Rivers State also The Rice Mills Factory Kicking off in 2025 based in Eleme and Okrika Ancient Kingdom. The Holdings was enquired to be acquired Nigerian billionaire Sir Emeka Offor but was rejected by the Board of Directors.

He was conferred with the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State (DSSRS) Award by Chief Nyesom Wike on 27 May 2023. Also, he was recognized by the Ikwerre Nation with the Title Eze Omekwali 1 of Uvuawhu meaning 'the fixer and peace maker of the land' it was conferred on him by HRH Eze Ohna Sergeant Awuse CON. He created the Woko Corp Foundation (WCF) to help women and children in rural areas in Ikwerre land to be empowered.
