Low Yok Lin (1900–1981) was a Malaysian businessman and a founding director of the Malayan Broadcasting Services.
Early life and immigration[edit]
Low Yok Lin was born around the year 1900 in China. He immigrated to Malaya, where he established his life and career. He had a strong acumen for business and a deep commitment to community development, which earned him the trust and respect of his associates.
Founding member of Malayan Broadcasting Service[edit]
One of Yok Lin's notable business initiatives was the establishment of the Malayan Broadcasting Services in 1927, marking the inception of a pioneering media organization that operated at a national level.[1]

The name,Malayan Broadcasting Services was also used synonymously as Radio-Malaya Singapore in 1946.[2].
Throughout the 1950s, the Malayan Broadcasting Services played a pivotal role in countering the communist insurgency by broadcasting anti-communist propaganda and disseminating valuable information to the public. [3]
While Low Yok Lin is not documented in official historical records, he played an important role as a founding member of the Malayan Broadcasting Services, which has made a marked contributions to Malaysia.
Other Business Ventures[edit]
Like other early immigrants[4]to Malaya(the former name for Malaysia), Yoke Lin came with nothing. Yet he managed to build his enterprise in diverse industries, such as rubber cultivation, hardware supply, brick manufacturing and plantation management. He was a self-made entrepreneur who amassed his wealth from his ingenuity and trust that he inspired with his business associates. These claims are based on personal interviews with some of his associates and relatives, but they have not been verified yet by published sources.
Philanthropic contributions[edit]
He held an active role within the Hokkien Hoay Kuan (Hokkien Association Taiping).[5]The Hokkien Hoay Kuan is the second oldest club in Perak and the fifth oldest in Malaysia, with its headquarters situated at No. 290, Jalan Kota, Taiping, Perak.[6][7]
The Hokkien Hoay Kuan associations primarily catered to the needs and interests of members belonging to the dialect group, who assumed responsibility for the well-being and affairs of their fellow clanspeople who had immigrated from China.[8][9]
According to accounts provided by some of his associates and relatives, Low Yok Lin's dedication to community well-being extended beyond his business ventures. He is believed to have played a vital role in supporting early Chinese settlers during the 1920s and 1930s, providing them with essential necessities such as food and lodging until they achieved self-reliance. Furthermore, he actively contributed to expanding educational opportunities for underprivileged students, demonstrating support for institutions like Hua Lian[10], one of Malaysia's oldest educational establishments.
It's important to emphasize that these claims are primarily based on oral sources and have not yet been corroborated by published references.
