Bimodal bilinguals often use code- switching when speaking to other bimodal bilinguals who understand both the spoken and signed language being used. [1]

Deaf schools went through a period where use of a signed language was banned because of the assumption that use of a signed language instead of an oral language would cause language acquisition delays. [2]
