Summary of Wikipedia's 5 Pillars:

1. Wiki is an online encyclopedia: Wikipedia is to be used only as an online encyclopedia. It is not to be used to advertise or promote anything.

2. Wikipedia has a neutral point of view: Wiki pages should not be used to promote agendas or advocate for causes. Information should be as balanced and neutral as possible. When describing a controversial topic, all sides should be presented fairly.

3. Wikipedia is free content: Anyone may create, edit and modify wiki pages. However, copyright laws must be obeyed and plagiarism should be avoided. Also, because wiki is free, you do not own your edits and any other person may edit and distribute your contributions.

4. Editors should interact in a civil and respectful manner: There is no need to be nasty and confrontational. You should always assume that the other editors have the same good intentions as you, even if you disagree with their edits. Deal with disagreements respectfully and remember that there are millions of other pages to edit.

5.Wikipedia does not have firm rules: There are no hard fast rules for wikipedia. The pillars are guidelines and should be followed, but the rules are open to interpretation and adjustment.

Summary of Characteristics of Target Article

Our wiki project requires that we take an article from Stub class to between B and GA class.

Stub class articles contain a very basic description of the topic. It lacks detail and often only provides a dictionary definition of the topic. An article between B and GA class, will be mostly complete and without major issues. The average reader will be satisfied with what is presented, but a serious researcher or student may find it incomplete. It must meet and exceed the B class criteria: 1. The article is appropriately referenced with inline citations when necessary 2. The article covers the topic well, without any important information omitted 3. The article is well organized in a defined structure 4. The article is well written without grammar and spelling mistakes. It also flows well 5. It contains supporting material such as diagrams and illustrations 6. It is written for as broad an audience as possible.

DNA Synthesis

DNA synthesis is the process of replicating complementary DNA strands from template DNA. It is performed by enzymes called DNA polymerases.[1] DNA polymerases synthesize new strands of DNA in the 3'-5' direction on both the leading and lagging strands of the template DNA. [2]
