Theatron in Second Life \Theatron is an on-line virtual space that is stylised on real life Greek theatres. Theatron is a 'space' in virtual reality than enables people all over the world to be able to experience hands on in theatres that they may otherwise never get the chance to see. Firstly to be able to go into a 'Theatron' you need to create an avatar. Designing your own look for your avatar allows you to virtually embody any kind of look, shape you desire. You can be a human, an object, an animal. The list is endless. The point to this being to give you the power of free will. To let you be who ever you want. Or to be presented a particular way on-line. Theatron was created back in 2003, it has followers all around the world and you can go into the virtual space, learn to wall, talk, and interact with other users. You can even fly in this virtual space which I initially found quite fun once I mastered how to do so. Theatron is a specialised realm here for people around the world to explore. You can watch plays in the many different theatres and you can even direct a rehearsal and book out a particular space I.e a theatre or a island. Virtual theatres in Second Life are based on actual real buildings and theatres. They have been captured and placed in your hand to explore. The theatres are taken from different countries all over the world. Positive research has found out that when scholars are exploring these real life theatres virtually that they can facilitate information in a more innovative and unique way for students to learn. Moving around in Second Life can initially be very slow at first while a user explores the virtual space. However an interesting link of knowledge that when you enter a Theatron space you are there naked and the space builds up around you. Second Life have stylised the 'entry' like that to show us a key reflection of the old style Greek theatres and how they used to be. Around 600,BC and 75 years after the 'Protagonist' the main actor present in the theatre was to interact with the chorus. The actors in this time were of a male domain and men would also dress up to portray women. When thinking of Greece fancy dress; we initially think of the white toga. However actors would only often wear either red or green material if they were to act in a comedy or dark clothes if it was to be a dark play or tragedy. Sports held in Greece back in these times were usually done naked as the body moved freely and paintings and sculptures were often naked to. So referencing back to the 'Theatron space' I see the reason why you enter the space naked. You have to experience the entirety of the theatre and if you were to be in Greece in those times nudity was often around and was quite common. Where as in comparison with today's 21sty century with named clothes and the want for all things materialistic. It is a different life that we live in to. The discovery of the on-line web and now many on-line interactive worlds, there isn't any wonder that for some people 'second life' may feel more important or people may just enjoy exploring new experiences via virtual reality and the want to be unknown. Something known as (lsl) Linden Scripting Language. This is all about how your avatar views things in the space. Static rotations used in Second Life via 'media streamer', which is a unique to each viewer. By using this it is possible to reproduce the effect of walking around things. 'Stop-animation' is the effect to help you view things fully, so they don't fall flat. As we naturally see in 3D anyway it wouldn't be as successful to visit a Theatron and for objects and builds to fall flat. So by using (HUD) Housing and Urban Development we can successfully view the theatrons in their fullest.
