As a result of Bodin's test of physical strength and resilience throughout all of his training he was posted to 4th Company (4e CIE). Here he went on to complete the demolitions and specialist warfare training at the Commando Training Centres: Centre d'entraînement commando d'Arta Plage (CECAP) in Arta, Djibouti; Centre d'entraînement commando Guyane in Régina, French Guiana; and Centre national d'entraînement commando (CNEC) in Mont-Louis, France.

It was initially thought he would join the Section de tireurs d'élite (STE) as a sniper but because of his Commando training he was instead moved to the Pathfinder section.
