User:Letcreate123/Guide for Spanish Wikipedians

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you have been targeted here is because you recently came from the Spanish Wikipedia and you may need familiarization with our policies because there are some differences.

General

[edit]
  • In the Spanish Wikipedia, users are not allowed to remove comments or blank their user talk pages, however in the English Wikipedia this is allowed (with a few exceptions stated at WP:BLANKING).
  • In the Spanish Wikipedia, sysops are reffered as bibliotecarios (librarians in english), but here they are reffered as administrators (administradores in spanish).
  • In the Spanish Wikipedia, there are two deletion processes; speedy deletion and deletion discussions. Here, on the English Wikipedia, there is an additional process called proposed deletion (usually stylized as PROD), in which an article can be deleted after a PROD tag remains in an article for 7 days, then an administrator can contest the PROD or delete the article. Non-admins may contest the PROD too, and it may also be done before the PROD expires.
  • Technically, in the Spanish Wikipedia, the "WP:" prefix does not redirect to the "Wikipedia:" prefix but it is still used for redirects to Wikipedia pages. On the English Wikipedia, the "WP:" prefix does redirect to the "Wikipedia:" prefix and as such things are a lot easier.
  • The highest sanction level in form of a block, in the Spanish Wikipedia, is permanent, which means that the user is not allowed to edit the Spanish Wikipedia and is not a community member anymore there. In the English Wikipedia, however, that level of sanction is a ban, which may be imposed by the community or the Arbitration Commitee, the highest sanction level in form of a block is instead indefinite, meaning the user is unable to edit Wikipedia but they are still a member of the community and may request an unblock later.
  • Compare the Spanish Wikipedia's way of formatting vandalism reports to the English Wikipedia's. You may have noted a radical difference. That is, that when a user reports a vandal at the Spanish Wikipedia, they have to make a sub-section to report them, with 4 bullets, named after "Possible vandal", "Reason for report", "Reporting user" and "Administrative action" (only for administrators), which can be a little bit complex compared to the English Wikipedia's way of doing so, all it takes is to add a bullet under the "User-reported" sub-section, use {{IPvandal}} or {{vandal}}, put your reason for reporting and put your signature. Also, when the vandal is blocked, the report is automatically removed by a bot, and the reports are usually contested using {{AIV}}, and the bot may remove them after a considerable amount of time.
  • On the Spanish Wikipedia, consensus was gained near the end of 2008 to delete the templates "Esbozo" ("Stub"), "Miniesbozo" ("Ministub") and "Expandir" ("Expand", or looking at the purpose of that template, "Empty section"), altrough "Esbozo" was retained for historical reference. But look here. There is {{stub}}, which differs radically from the Spanish Wikipedia version because it is just plain italic text, while the Spanish Wikipedia version was a green Ombox, making it pretty much annoying. That template was never nominated for deletion, altrough the Ministub template never existed. The {{empty section}} template was nominated for deletion twice, the first one being closed as Delete, but later overturned to No consensus per this deletion review, and the second one closed again as No consensus.

User warnings

[edit]

In the Spanish Wikipedia, user warnings are prefixed with "Aviso foo" and written like this:

Pruebas de edición
Hola, Aviso prueba 1.
Gracias.

On the English Wikipedia, they are prefixed with uw- and written like this

Information icon Hello, I'm ToonLucas22. An edit that you recently made seemed to be a test and has been removed. If you want more practice editing, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks!

Noticed the differences? The enwiki warning used File:Information.svg and the eswiki warning used File:Commons-emblem-legal.svg, which is currently being used for arbitration notices in the English Wikipedia.

User warnings for other problems such as {{unreferenced}} do not exist on the English Wikipedia, altrough deletion notices do exist.

Ediciones arbitrarias

Gracias.
