Francis Sultana is a UK-based interior and furniture designer and founder of the London-based interiors label Francis Sultana Ltd and Creative Director of David Gill Galleries.[1]

Background[edit]

Sultana was born in the United Kingdom, grew up mainly in Malta and moved to London in 1991.

Career[edit]

Sultana joined David Gill Galleries in 1992, becoming Artistic Director in 1999. In 2009 he left to start his own interior design company Francis Sultana Ltd. In 2012 he was made Artistic Director of David Gill Galleries. He divides his time between the two businesses.[2]

Sultana has designed furniture since 2011. His first collection was Homage to the Art Deco, in 2012 he launched a second collection entitled Yana. In 2014 Sultana launched a collection called Anita and designed the interior for the retailer Armorial at Thomas Goode in London.

In 2013 Sultana designed a collection entitled Munira for Marc de Berny.[3] The collection celebrates the renaissance of the De Berny name, once a renowned furniture house at Chateau de Berny in the 19th century. [4]

In 2015 he launched a further furniture collection entitled Celia .[5]

V&A[edit]

In 2011 Sultana became Chair of the V&A Design Fund. [6]. The fund has purchased works by international designers including Hella Jongerius[7] and Fredrikson Stallard [8] for the museum's permanent collection.

NPSCC[edit]

In 2011 Sultana joined the London Volunteers Board for the NSPCC and oversaw the 2012 Surrealist Art Ball and 2013 Pop Art Ball which raised a combined £3.5million for the charity. 2015's theme is Neo-Romantic and the event will run alongside Masterpiece in London. [9]
