I chose to read and evaluate the article titled: Rhythm and Blues (Rhythm and blues) (for extra credit, link the name of the article to the article in Wikipedia.)

1. Is there a warning banner at the top of the article? No, however I used the one posted on Black board.

Write an brief explanation of the reason the issues mentioned in the warning banner are important. For example, if the issue is “needs additional citations for verification,” why does that matter? The article needs citations, so whoever is reading the article can depend on the writings, with knowing they are viewing valid information. When articles or books have citations, it lets the audience know that they can also look to what was cited to confirm the information given

2. Is the lead section of the article easy to understand? Does it summarize the key points of the article? Yes it easy to understand, because as I wrote in my previous assignments, it gives the true origin of Rhythm and Blues (R&B), which I included in my past assignments. it summarizes the key point of the article, because it talks about the origin, R&B singers, the meaning of the term R&B, and the instruments used to produce R&B music.

3. Is the structure of the article clear? “Are there several headings and subheadings, images and diagrams at appropriate places, and appendices and footnotes at the end?” : The structure of the article is not as clear as it would have been if it were written in a book. There are several headings and subheadings named, Etymology, definitions and descriptions, history, Afro-Cuban Rhythmic influence, Early to mid-1950's, Late 1950's, 1960's - 1970's , 1980's to present if you just want to go straight into what you are looking for. For example, if I wanted to know what happened in the late 1950's of the blues, I would go to that section and if I wanted to know of how the meaning of the term R&B changed, I would view the heading of Etymology.

4. Are “the various aspects of the topic balanced well”? That is does it seem to provide a comprehensive overview of the topic? : Yes, they are listed in bold, if you want to know a certain thing about that subject. It provides what you are going to be viewing when looking into the article.

5. Does the article provide a “neutral point of view”? Does it read like an encyclopedia article instead of a persuasive essay? :No, because what is written in the article, to some people may be false, such as R&B beginning in the 20th century, when it really began in the 19th century. It reads like an encyclopedia, because it gives many aspects of Rhythm and Blues, as to its origin, its music, and its people.

6. Are the references and footnotes citing reliable sources? Do they point to scholarly and trustworthy information? Beware of references to blogs; look for references to books, scholarly journal articles, government sources, etc. Yes, because it gives off a lot of popular names of people who attended Universities and also people who are professors and famous novelist. These people write books for scholars and maybe a general audience, but it mainly focuses on a scholarly reading. These are all references to books.

7. Look for these signs of bad quality and comment on their presence or absence from the article you are evaluating:

a. is the lead section well-written, in clear, correct English? Yes, it is well-written, with correct English, because it gives the reader a view of what the article is going to be about.

b. are there “unsourced opinions” and/or “value statements which are not neutral”? I can say that there is an unsourced opinion, because not anywhere in the article does it give information on how R&B formed.

c. does the article refer “to ‘some,’ ‘many,’ or other unnamed groups of people,” instead of specific organizations or authors or facts? No

d. does the article seem to omit aspects of the topic? Yes, it excludes that R&B music was influenced by slavery.

e. are some sections overly long compared to other sections of similar importance to the topic? Yes, the least important sections of the article, which is when it talk s about the music notes are lengthy and the most important parts talking about the origin and history are short.

. does the article lack sufficient references or footnotes? No, it had a sufficient list of references and footnotes.

g. Look at the “View History” for the article. As you read the conversation there, do you see hostile dialogue or other evidence of lack of respectful treatment among the editors? No , but I do see someone posting that R&B started in the 1930's, which is false. It began in the 19th century.

Evaluate the Wikipedia article you selected using the CARDIO method. Write your answers following each word below:

Currency : The last update of this article was October 19, 2016 at 4:10 PM.

Authority: He she lists references to other books, who are written by professional writers with bachelors, etc...

Relevance : It's relevant, because it gives supporting information on my main topic and this information will interest others who are interested in R&B music.

Depth: It is not a sufficient amount of information to do a report on, especially since some of the writings are invalid.

Information Format : It was descent to where if you wanted to learn of the definition of R&B, that you can go to that section and read it, instead of storming around to find it in other paragraphs not related to it.

Object : The purpose of this article can be to inform the readers of where the music they listen to came from and how it became known as what we call it today.
