Tim Roger known on stage as Jack Ladder is an Australian singer, guitarist, songwriter and composer.

Artistry[edit]

Ladder’s music is characterized by his baritone voice and poignant observations on love and death, often featuring a gallows humour.

Since 2005 Ladder has released three albums; Not Worth Waiting For (Spunk 2005), Love is Gone (Spunk 2008) and HURSTVILLE (Spunk 2011/Holloweyed 2012).

Love is Gone was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize.

For a successful television advertising campaign, in 2011 Ladder recorded his own version of “The 12 Days of Christmas” for iconic Australian underwear manufacturer Bonds.

Ladder has also composed and curated a collection of ‘60’s and ‘70’s music for Watch With Mother, a sketch horror show created for iPad and tablet computers, the first of its genre.

Following the release of HURSTVILLE in 2011, Ladder was nominated in The Melbourne Age EG Music Awards in multiple categories including Best Male Artist, Best Song and Best Album. Lead single “Cold Feet” was crowned “Song of the Year” by Australian music site Mess & Noise and again shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize.

HURSTVILLE was released in North America via the Holloweyed label and in Germany/BENELUX via Skycap in 2012.

Ladder also contributed to Okkervil River’s ‘The Stand Ins’ project.

Tours and live performances[edit]

Jack Ladder has an extensive touring history across Australia since 2005, including national tours to support all three albums released in 2005, 2008 and 2011.

Australian festivals and venues where Ladder has performed include; Laneway Festival (VIC NSW), Peats Ridge Festival (NSW), Meredith Festival (VIC), The Metro (Adelaide), The Rosemount (Perth), The Grand Poobah (Hob), The Corner Hotel (Melbourne), Manning Bar (Sydney), Brass Monkey (Sydney), East Brunswick Club (Melbourne), Step Inn (Brisbane) and many more.

Ladder has also performed internationally, in London, Berlin, New York and Los Angeles.

Ladder has shared stages with John Cale, The Horrors, Bill Callanhan and Okkervil River.

In 2008 Ladder appeared on the Fox breakfast show Good Day New York performing “You Won’t Be Forgotten (When You Leave)”. In 2009 Ladder performed “The Barber’s Son” on Australian celebrity music quiz show Rockwiz. Ladders song “Two Clocks” appears in the season finale of Australian crime drama Underbelly (Nine Network 2009).

In 2010 Ladder performed as bass guitarist on Bill Callahan’s single, Rough Travel For A Rare Thing, featured on live album, Drag City.

Awards[edit]

Love is Gone won the Red Bull Music Award for recognition of outstanding potential. Love is Gone was also selected as Album of the year by Who Weekly magazine.
