Admissions

Only incoming Grade 7 students are eligible for admissions in MSHS, provided they meet sufficient grade requirements. The prospective students must pass the Manila Science Admission Test, an aptitude examination that measures the students' abilities in science, math, English, and abstract reasoning. The passers range from 200–300 students per batch, and are announced in alphabetical order. Students who are unable to pass the MSAT can take another placement exam to be able to enroll alongside the MSAT passers. These students will be categorized in 8 sections with 30–40 students each.

The MSHS admissions does not accept transferees from other schools. Therefore, only those who are admitted since Grade 7 can graduate in the campus.

Sections

The MSHS campus has around 30–40 students per class, and 7 or 8 classes per batch. A year level consists of students ranging from 200–300. Each section is named after a notable foreign scientist. In the K–12 curriculum, the section names of Grades 11–12 follow the same convention, although each batch consists of 4–5 sections.

Curriculum

Under the Special Science Curriculum, students are given lessons that focus mostly in the sciences and mathematics. In the early years of K–12 implementation, a compulsory foreign language subject is randomly assigned to one or two sections for Grades 9 and 10. Currently, Grade 9 students are given a choice to pick one elective subject that they will take up until Grade 10, without the compulsory foreign language subjects.

Students who choose to enter English or Filipino Journalism are entered in the school publications "The Nucleus" and "Ang Ubod" respectively.

Student life

Organizations and clubs

Student clubs are open for every student, such as , Science Research Society (SRS), Mathematics Club, Computer Science Society (ComSoc) LINK, Debate Society (DebSoc), the YES-O Club, the Atomos Club for chemistry, the IP Club for intellectual property, and the Arts Club. For each foreign language (Nihonggo, French, Mandarin, and Spanish), they have clubs respective of the subject. The Astronomy Club is exclusive for Grade 7 students only. Every student is encouraged to join at least one organization.

There are other co-curricular organisations, such as the Supreme Student Government (SSG) and the Red Cross Youth.

MSHS students can also join extra-curricular associations. For the student publications The Nucleus and Ang Ubod, the student must either be 1) part of the journalism elective, or 2) for Grades 7 and 8, must have passed battery tests administered by the campus press advisers. The Manila Science High School Chorale (MSHSC) and the Dance Troupe are also present; the latter serves as a student club as well. There is also a Drum and Lyre band that performs annually every October at Foundation Day or during graduation and moving-up ceremonies.
