Dr Gabriel Ribadu

Introduction

Dr (Chief) Gabriel Ribadu, a Medical Doctor and accountant, born September 03 1960 in Ilorin,Kwara State of Nigeria.

His Father Mallam Nurudeen Ribadu an Hausa man, from the Northern Nigeria and Mother, Cythia Okeke,an Igbo Woman from the eastern part of Nigeria,both were Civil servant with the then Railway Corporation of Nigeria.

Education

He attended the Ta’aleemul Islam Ahmadiyya primary School Elegbata, Lagos. And Ahmadiyya Secondary School, Kano. He was admitted to the University of Ilorin to study accounting, he became a member of ICAN, Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria in 1984.

Career

He joined the Nigeria Federal Ministry of Health in 1986 after he concluded his Youth Service Corp NYSC. In 1987 he started a new University degree in Medicine at the then University of Ife, now called Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State, named in honour of the late staunch Nigeria Politician and Premier of the defunct Western Region of Nigeria,Chief Obafemi Awolowo. He graduated with a degree in Immunology.

In the year 1996, he rejoined The ministry of health where he remained till date, he held several positions withing the departments,both at the capacity of being an accountant and as a medical doctor. He became the Director General of a Special Task Force, (Group of accountants) set up to unravel the present and past questionable files of both new and completed contracts, and spendings within the health ministry and parastatals, they operate silently within the Ministry of Health.Working with the anti corruption establishment like The Nigeria Police,The EFCC, The State Security Service, SSS etc. The establishment has uncovered lots of shady deals among staffs of Health Ministry, and many uncompleted projects that has cost the country whooping sum of money.

Achievements

Since its creation,and since Dr Gabriel Ribadu attained the leadership of the Task force,with the collaboration of other anti graft bodies, it has uncovered many fraudulent activities of some Nigerian citizens, and many Respected public figures who have worked and are still working within the health department have been brought to book. Money looted has been returned to the country in Billions. He has helped variuosly in the fight against AIDS in Africa.Partnering with scientist on vaccine developments and trials in Africa.He abored Publicity, one of the few Nigerian that shy away from such.

Life tragedies

He lost his wife Aminat Ribadu and three son in the ADC Aviation Development Company.ADC Airline crash of 7th November 1996. A boeing 727-231 coming from Port Harcourt to Lagos.The plane lost control and crashed after a near miss incident killing all 143 persengers and crews on board at Imota near Ejirin in Lagos State, and since has remarried and is blessed with four more children. He was accused of masterminding the death and missing of some member of the task force including The Manager of the Special Task Force, Mr Lanre David Agbaje, and some of its member like Theo Akino, Joseph Owata, Niyi Ajayi, Olayinka Ogun, Mustafa Sheu, Babadeinbo Fadeyi, Victor Chukwudi, Ibrahim Hassan, Beatrice duke and host of others.Seventeen Members of the task force were either dead or Missing.Some dead bodies were found and some were not.But there was no prosecution whatsoever to date.
