Ione Lindley Taylor is an American geologist.
Personal life[edit]
Ione Lindley Taylor was born March 6, 1964 in North Carolina where she was raised and educated. Her first jobs in geoscience were in New Orleans, Louisiana, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Houston. Prior to relocating to Ontario, Canada she lived in Reston, Virginia. [1] Taylor and her husband Al Taylor have a son and a daughter who have both attended graduate school.[2]
Education[edit]
Taylor obtained her Bachelors degree in Chemistry at Guilford College in 1976. She continued her education by obtaining her Masters Degree in Geology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1979. Additionally, she obtained her Doctor of Philosophy (ph.D) in Geology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1985.[1] Taylors education led her to a career in the geoscience community. Ione began her career in geology at Amoco Production Company. She eventually transitioned to working for the US government at the US Geological Survey departments of the Interior. She continued on to hold the position of executive director for the Earth and Energy Resources Leadership professional masters program at Queen’s University. [3]

Career[edit]
Taylor began working with the New Mexico Bureau of Mines and Mineral Resources while she was attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During her time with the bureau she worked on geothermal mineralization in volcanic systems of the western US, after which she took a job as a petroleum geologist in the Gulf of Mexico.[2][1] Since then she has worked at multiple companies such as Amoco Production Company, the US Geology Survey, and British Petroleum.
Taylor is currently employed at Queen’s University, where she works as the Executive Director of Earth and Energy Resources Leadership.[4][3]
Awards and distinctions[edit]
In 2017 Taylor received the “Heritage of the Petroleum Geologist” from the American Association of Petroleum Geologists in celebration of their 100 year anniversary and is one of 8 women to receive the award.[5] That same year she was profiled in the book Heritage of the Petroleum Geologist, which was published by the Association and written by Andrea S. Reynolds, Charles A. Sternbach, Robert C. Shoup, and Chandler T. Whilhem.[5]
Taylor has served as the co-chair for the US National Training and Development Human Capital team, where she assisted in decision making on the national level for land and natural resources for the Federal Senior Executives. For her work she received a certificate of Federal Senior Executives.[1]
She is a certified Administrator for Leadership Assessments Instruments, obtained through the Center for Creative Leadership. Through this completion, she has delivered web-based leadership and been a part of decisions made at the US National level in regards to land and resources. [1]
