From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Browne Group Inc. is a Canadian manufacturer and designer of kitchenware and houseware products for the foodservice and consumer markets under its own brands, as well as a distributer of other kitchenware and houseware brands. Notable brand names associated with Browne & Co include its own brands Cuisipro, Kitchen Grips, Berard, Donvier and Thermalloy[1].

History

[edit]

In 1949, John Browne, Ota Browne and Francis Popper formed Browne & Co in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Acting as a general trading company, O. Browne & Co was successful in distributing a wide range of products including tires, camping and kitchenware[2].

In 1988, 2nd generation cousins Peter and Michael Browne took over the family business, renaming it Browne & Company. They created two divisions that focused on creating and sourcing kitchen products for the foodservice and consumer markets.

Thermalloy® Professional Cookware was created in-house by the Browne design team in 1995 for the foodservice industry, followed by the launch of consumer brand Cuisipro in 1998. The company continued to expand in 2005 when Browne & Co purchased Berard, fine quality olive wood products made in France since 1892, thus establishing Browne Europe. Extending further into kitchenwares, Duncan Kitchen Grips was acquired by Browne & Co in 2006, growing distribution in both foodservice & retail markets[3].

In 2015, Browne Group was acquired by Dennis Poon, Kitchenware industry professional and co-founder of one of the industry’s largest manufacturers[4].
