Ecology Lab Hymenoptera[edit]

Hymenoptera are a order of insects that include wasps, bees, ants, and sawflies. The Hymenoptera caught in the Ecology Laboratory was a ant, more specifically a Crazy Ant that is commonly found in the state of Georgia (U.S. state). Those ants are classified by their one node between the thorax and abdomen, as well as the lighter color of their body compared to the abdomen. They also have a small bend in their antennae compared to other ant species.

The Crazy Ant was caught using a funnel method that included a cup, ethanol and a funnel for the insects in the area to fall into. From the insects that were caught using this method, most of them were Hymenoptera. Then insects were taken into the laboratory and inspected under a microscope to identify the orders before classifying them.
