4player Podcast, or 4 Player Podcast, abbreviated as 4PP, is a podcast by four video gamers who are self-described as enthusiasts in the industry. They live primarily in Austin, Texas where they host a weekly podcast and broadcast daily on Justin.tv. Their podcast regularly consists of news in the video game industry, what games they have been recently playing, their own thoughts and opinions on such and what else is going on in their lives.

Origins

[edit]

The podcast first began with David Liao and Brad Simons with no official title. When Nick Henderson joined, they tentatively called it East vs. West based on the host's different ethnical backgrounds. David Liao was interested in Japanese games while Brad Simons usually played arcade fighters like Tekken. The two had first met in Middle School, sharing the same classes. They had spent time together in an arcade, both interested in what each other liked to play. They wanted to share their thoughts and experiences on video games with whoever would listen. They had some of their friends as guests on their shows, which later became part of the podcast. David had met Travis Granger at an "undisclosed video game retailer" he works at; Travis at the time was still in High School. On February 3, 2008 Liao, Simons and another roommate, broadcasted from their apartment on Justin.tv using a PlayStation EyeToy. At first they used this setup to broadcast their games off-screen, but soon were able to get direct feed with different equipment.

The podcast can stem back to October 29, 2006 when David Liao posted his first geographic region cover art comparison of Final Fantasy XII.

Structure of show

[edit]

The beginning of the show starts with what everyone has been playing and how they felt about that particular game, going into the news of the week, and the community segment covers things planned for 4PP in the forums and on Justin.tv and mail from listeners of the show. At the end of each episode the hosts have a 4 player minute. Each person goes over a Guilty Pleasure or Shameful Secret they have, things they are hyped for (Hype Machine), and something they are worried about (Sweaty Palms).

Top 5

[edit]

The Top 5 is a separate podcast from the usual episodes. It consists of the hosts personal top 5 on a specific topic. For example; "Top 5 Favorite Video Game Characters".

Dinner Time

[edit]

On August 19, 2008, Brad and David revealed a new show tentatively called Dinner Time. Dinner Time is a more leisurely segmented podcast in which they talk about whatever's on their mind. In the first episode, they ate at a Chinese Restaurant.

JAPANcast

[edit]

Later on in their history of broadcasting on Justin.tv, they started a new channel dedicated to Japanese anime, music videos, movies, etc. The channel is usually hosted by David Liao, Juan Pantoja and Matt Hill. They broadcast there erratically.
