Formula Dé: 1999 League Schedule & Rules[edit]

The following pamphlet was distributed to players for the 1999 Formula Dé Tournament League.

League Rules for the 1999 Season:[edit]

1. Races[edit]

Each race will consist of a time trial, and a 3 lap race. The first six cars to finish the race earn points towards the Drivers and Constructors Championships. 10, 6, 4, 3, 2, and 1 point are awarded respectively to the first through sixth place finishers towards both Championships.

2. Advanced Rules[edit]

The league will use the Basic Rules and all of the Advanced Rules; slipstreaming, Time Trials, Tires, Weather, Road-Holding, Wear Points & the Pits.

3. Tournament Rules[edit]

In addition to the published rules we will be using the following unpublished rules:

A. Passing:[edit]

When a car passes another car and ends its movement in the space directly in front of the car it just passed those two cars do not have to make bodywork a check.

This is actually just a clarification of a common misconception based on the “Collisions” rule from the Basic Rules.
B. Slipping the Clutch:[edit]

Once per turn, any driver may add one space to their roll by “slipping their clutch.” To do this they must spend one engine point. When spending this point the car does not leave a debris counter.

C. Teams:[edit]

Teams may consist of two drivers. Both drivers of each team must agree to construct their cars identically with respect to the first 18 points. Each driver may then allocate the remaining two points as he or she would like. The final configuration need not be identical for both cars.

D. Pit Assignment:[edit]

Pits are decided on the basic of the number of points each team has won to date. The leading team uses the pit farthest from the pit exit, through to the team with the least points which uses the pit closets to the exit. In the case of a tie, the teams roll the Black die and the lowest roll picks who starts farther back.

E. Driver Points:[edit]

For each 30 points won during the proceeding races to date, a driver receives one Driver Point. These points may be used for an additional space of movement, and may be expended as the player/driver wishes during the race. Only one point may be used in a single move, and only two may be used in the same race.

F. Build Points:[edit]

For every three victories won by a team during the proceeding races to date, a build point is obtained. A build point may be used to increase the number of construction points for one car for one race. Only one point may be expended on a single car in each race.

G. Driver Accidents:[edit]

A driver may be temporarily incapacitated or permanently removed from the championship because of n accident during a race. If eliminated because of Bodywork damage or overshooting a corner and lacking more than three Tire Points, the player rolls the black die. If the result is a 1, the driver may not participate in the next race and a second roll is made. If the second roll is 1 or 2, the accident is too severe and the driver does not survive or decides to retire. The player may take another driver, with a new name and 0 Driver Points, in the championship.

If the accident is serious (the first roll above was a 1) and took place after the end of the first lap, the race is finished and the position of the cars on the track at the moment of the accident determines the finishing positions. If a serious accident tales place during the first lap, a new start is made for a two lap race, and the starting grid is determined by the positions of the cars at that time. No tire changes are permitted before the restart.

H. Driver Injury in Qualifying:[edit]

If a car exceeds the end of a corner by six or more spaces during qualifying, or spends two or more fewer turns in the corner than required, it has suffered a serious accident. The player rolls the die, and if the result is a 1 the driver may not start this race. In this case a second die roll is made, and if this results in a 1 or 2 the driver has perished in the flaming wreckage of his car or is no longer able to race because of their injuries. In both of these cases the player may not start a new driver (with a new name and 0 Driver Points) until the following race, to the delight of the other players.

4. Awards[edit]

There will be four awards given at the end of the Season: A Drivers’ Award for the 3 drivers who have won the most Drivers’ Championship points when all the races have been completed, and a Constructors’ Award for the Team with the most combined Constructors’ points. Ties are broken in favor of the driver or team which has the most first place finishes, or second place finishes if there is still a tie, etc.

5. Expectations[edit]

Since the schedule for the season is already known, all drivers are expected to bring their constructed car to the race.
