Soul City is a South African soap opera developed by doctors in a clinic in Johannesburg in an attempt to educate people about HIV and AIDS in a creative manner, making it a form of edutainment.[1] It was first broadcast in 1994.[2]

Effects

Evaluations indicate the show has an effect. In 2007, 87% of the adult population of South Africa was reached. Because of the show, the amount of people who had themselves tested increased with 7% and 8% more people started using condoms. 20% more people want to take care of someone with HIV.[1]
