Kiyoe Yoshioka (吉岡 聖恵 Yoshioka Kiyoe?) (born February 29, 1984) is the main vocalist of the Japanese pop group Ikimonogakari.

Life and Career

[edit]

Yoshioka was born in the city of Shizuoka and moved to Atsugi, Kanagawa when she was five years old. In November 1999, she got a call from her older brother that two of his friends, Yoshiki Mizuno and Hotaka Yamashita, were doing a street live performance and were looking for a female vocalist. He told her that they were presently performing in front of the Sagami-Ōno Station and told her to come. She quickly got ready and joined right on the spot. In 2002, she entered Showa University College of Music. However, she went through a slump phase during about a year of her college career and said that she didn't want to sing. This resulted in a conflict between her and Mizuno and the group took about a year break. Because Mizuno was unable to persuade Yoshioka to start the group again, Yamashita decided to talk to her alone. Yamashita successfully changed Kiyoe's mind in a day.

Yoshioka's main role in Ikimonogakari is as vocalist, but occasionally takes part in songwriting, either in the lyrics or original songs. Some of her original songs are Kimi ga Iru and GOLDEN GIRL, which are A-side songs, Boku wa Koko ni Iru (from My Song your Song album), Mirai Wakusei (from Hajimari no Uta album), Tokyo (from I album), and Shiroi Diary (from NEWTRAL album).
