Psycho Shankra is a 2017 Indian Kannada-language crime drama, starring Pranav, Navarasan and Yashas Surya in the leading roles. The plot is based on the real-life exploits of a notorious criminal named 'Psycho Shankar'.[1] The film was directed by Punith Arya and produced by Prabhakar and Manjula under the Aadhishakti Creations and Manleo Productions.

The script of this film is based on Pshycho Shankar’s daring escape and two incidents that simultaneously took place in Mysuru and Kollegal on the same day. This film has everything for the benefit of cine-goers

Synopsis[edit]

The story revolves around an innocent guy named Narasimha (Pranav) and his sister. They lead an inncocent life on the regions of Nagamaley near Mysore. Psycho Shankara escapes from the jail and continues his scary acts on the outside world. He disguises himself as a common man and lives like us. The movie plot shows how Psycho shankara's acts affect society.

Pooja Gandhi was asked to do the female lead in this film as Lakshmi, is a leader of an infamous notorious gang. She was reluctantly agreed to do the role, because of negative talk in Kannada film industry that she would be lost her image working in such character's. extremely she has done and come out with an overwhelming critical appraise by the both critics and audience.[2][3][4] The film was the witness for Pooja Gandhi's mega comeback and which was critically and commercially a big success and brought back Pooja Gandhi into stardom through it. Gandhi received immense critical appraisal by the both critics and the audience, and she has received several awards for her performance as Lakshmi.[5][6]

Controversy[edit]

The film was criticised by social group Bahujan Samaj Horata Samiti, who claimed that its content was offensive. They objected specifically to the film's portrayal of women. Further controversy followed when it was revealed that actress Pooja Gandhi would appear topless in the film.[7][8]

After the release of the movie, Ambedkar Kranthi Sena activists demonstrated in Bengaluru against the film's "glorification of anti-social activities".[9]

"According to the dictionary, nudity means that you are not covered with a single item of clothing from head to toe. But in this scene, I have worn a sari and I am trying to cover my body, except for my back".

The film is certified as "A" by the Central Board of Film Certification. It will be released across Karnataka on 10 November 2017 with the title name as Psycho Shankara.
