Jocey Joseph Ekwuazi, known professionally as Willie XO, is a renowned Nigerian singer/songwriter.[1][2]
Early Life and music Career[edit]
Willie XO is a Nigerian singer born in London but spent his early childhood in Nigeria. He had a keen interest in Afro Beat Music from a young age. As a child, his favourite musicians included Fela Kuti and Bob Marley. Willie's big breakthrough came at the end of 2017,with the release of the song "Kraze"[3] which climbed to Number 1[4] in the official charts in Nigeria and performed fantastically in other African and Caribbean countries in a very short space of time.[5]
Career[edit]
In 2018, Willie XO gained massive recognition following his collaboration with Tory Lanez and Popcaan on a global hit, "Comfort You",[6] which drew rave reviews and streamed millions of times on digital platforms like Spotify, and gained him a spot at the official UK Billboard [7] Top 200. In 2019 Willie XO released the song titled Early In The Morning, featuring Ashanti [8]
Record label[edit]
Willie XO is currently working through his own label independently. SBMG Entertainment [9] is allowing him to produce music creatively and without restraint. Interest from major record labels in the UK is ramping up in the lead to the first official UK single release.
Projects[edit]
Willie XO has set up a charity[10] with the purpose of helping young people to start their own businesses. He has also funded hundreds of young children in Nigeria to go to school and stay in education and he vows that this is only the beginning. Willie XO has said that he wants to impact the lives of millions of people. The 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 m) giant was introduced to the scene by veteran Nigerian hip-hop recording artist, CEO of the talent managing outfit known as 'The Goretti Company' [11] responsible for launching the careers of Phyno and Chidinma among others.
