Michael Wehrhahn new article content ... Filmmaker Michael Wehrhahn is co-producing the first of a 3-D film trilogy entitled “The Monkey King”. A movie featuring Academy Award Nominee Chow Yun-Fat, Donnie Yen and Aaron Kwok. For any budding film producer, it’s a dream come true; The opportunity to co-produce a real $100,000,000 “Big-Budget” Hollywood Blockbuster! This film marks the very first time that the US has embarked on a co-production with China; Something that has never been done in cinema history… and boy is Hollywood buzzing! So how does some kid from Jersey like Michael get so lucky? Hard, hard work!

Born and bred in Northern New Jersey, Larry and Arlene Wehrhahn put their son Michael to work at the family archival film storage business in Fort Lee, NJ. Michael worked for ABC and NBC news, Good Morning America, NASA and Republic Pictures cataloging productions for data storage. As most youngsters in the business do, Michael found the silver screen most alluring and actually landed several film roles with stars like Nicholas Cage, Bridget Fonda, Matt Dillon and Mary-Louise Parker. He also landed small TV roles on “All My Children”, “Central Park West”, “Now and Again” and the original “Law and Order”. Now Michael hires casting directors to put youngsters in his films. Instead of learning lines for his next scene, Michael now is Script Supervisor for scripts written in both English and Mandarin as well as supervising two directors – one American and one Chinese to bring The Monkey King all around the world.

As a Martial Arts expert and stuntman, Michael performed his own stunts on shows like “Late Night with Conan O Brien” incorporating sketch characters to perform during his show. He co-produced with Gold Crest Studio’s President and assembled his own stunt team with Jackie Chan’s stuntman association to action direct and prep the scenes for Hong Kong style Stunt Flying Wire work, which is seen in countless American main stream action films today.

In the late 90’s, Michael landed his first executive position at Screen Gem Studios and kicked his career into high gear. He co-produced a feature with world renowned “Leon Lai” entitled “A Melody Looking”, a worldwide hit musical with Sony. Michael was in charge of all executive operations while simultaneously controlling a Hong Kong and US based film crew. Michael went on to produce several feature films; thus creating Global Star Productions, his very own film production company. Michael has teamed up with Hollywood’s best Special Effects pros (Star Wars, Oz, Iron Man, Spiderman) and now supervises a dozen Special Effects teams, converts film from 2-D to 3-D to IMAX, coordinates marketing campaigns in several countries around the world and travels on a regular basis to China, India and Los Angeles in bringing The Monkey King to life… and this is only Part One! He has now joined forces with Imagine Films President / Universal Television Icon Robert Harris in producing and releasing high end features for the U.S. and Asian markets. When asked, if it is time to move to Hollywood, Michael responds, “Are you crazy? I live in the best place in the world! If I have to go to Hollywood, I’ll just catch a flight out of Newark/Liberty. It’s only 20 minutes away.”

The Monkey King is scheduled for a February Release in China to coincide with the Chinese New Year. Easter time will mark the US release.
