Kewal Dheer[edit]

Dr. Kewal Dheer was born on October 5, 1938 at GAGGO, a village in district Montgomary (now in District Vehari, Pakistan). He is the eldest son of Dr. Hans Raj a noted social reformer. He had school education at Phagwara, Punjab (his parental town) where the family shifted during the partition in 1947. He got his graduation in medicine from Patna (Bihar) in the year 1960 and started his career as Medical Officer and retired from a high position in the Health Department, Government of Punjab. Dr. Kewal Dheer since his early age showed great zest and enthusiasm in literature, journalism and cultural activities. He started writing in early twenties and his first book of short stories “Dharti-Ro-Pari” published in Hindi in the year 1957. Gradually that developed his romance with literature resulted in becoming one of the foremost fiction writer in Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi in the Indo-Pak sub continent. Dr. Dheer has published ten volumes of short-stories and five volumes of novels, besides two travelogues on journey to Pakistan, U.S.A., U.K., Canada and several countries of Europe. To his credit he has more than Four dozen other books on literature, psychology, sexology, medicine and other subjects. His books are published in Urdu, Hindi, English and Punjabi languages. He has also written the scripts of many popular T.V. serials, plays and tele-films which include ‘Vachan’, Sheeshe-Ki-Diwar’ and ‘Gumrah’. Global peace and social concerns are main themes of his literary writings. He has been honored with 40 national and international awards for his outstanding contribution to Indian literature. Dr. Kewal Dheer is an eminent playwright, a popular Radio and Television compere, announcer, programmer and interviewer. His works of fiction have been translated into several languages in India and abroad. House of Commons (Parliament of Canada) and Legislative Assembly of Ontario, Canada honoured Dr. Kewal Dheer in Toronto on July 22, 2011 in recognition of his outstanding cultural and literary services for promotion of universal brotherhood and global peace.

LITERARY & CULTURAL ACTIVITIES[edit]

Dr. Kewal Dheer began writing as a student in Middle class and after Matriculation, he started writing short stories in Hindi and Urdu languages for magazines. On the cultural front he joined Milap Bal Sangh during school days and participated in its various cultural programmes as its state office bearer. In early seventies Dr. Kewal Dheer founded Adeeb International and Sahir Cultural Academy (http://www.sahirculturalacademy.com) and now these are recognized all over the world for the promotion of literary and cultural activities. Jashn-e-Sahir an Annual International event of friendship and hormony between the nations; especially between masses of India and Pakistan, is being held in Ludhiana for the last 40 years. Dr. Kewal Dheer has travelled U.S.A., Canada, U.K., Norway, France, and Pakistan several times. Friendly and cordial relationship between India and Pakistan is his dream and he is visiting Pakistan every year for promotion of friendship and peace.
