Calluses//Recollections is an experimental spoken word album by American writer Matthew Little that also serves as the audiobook for his 2021 poetry collection of the same name.

Background[edit]

In December of 2017, Little began to work on a new collection of poetry in between his other writing ventures. Creatively, poetry had taken a backseat as Little was more interested in expanding his prose with short stories and novel-writing. But Little soon hit a creative burst and wrote three poems in one night, and then continued on and off until he had collected a sufficient amount of new material.

Recording[edit]

Throughout his time writing poetry Little had recorded himself at times reading his works, and had received compliments in how he read them aloud. This made Little happy, as he has had a mild stutter since he was 9. He had never thought to record an audiobook until sometime late in 2020. Little was inspired to record a spoken word album after listening to recordings he had made of natural sounds coming from both inside his apartment and outside. He thought about recording himself reading his book and edit over it naturalistic sounds that go went the images in the poetry.

Little had recorded several albums under the name Ann Xiety and released two mixtapes with his friend Eli Burkley under the name Plot Holes, so he had experience with recording and production. Like his music, Little recited his work using the voice memo app on his iPhone 6, and the same with the background noises.
