From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maurits Maarten de Jong is what my passport reports. Most people know me as Martien de Jong.

My place of residence is Leiden, The Netherlands. I have an MSc in Physics, but certain decisions in my career have brought me to the field of compiler development, which is a rather mad branch of computer science. From this perspective, I'm interested in everything related to computer algorithms and programming languages. From my physics time, I inherited an interest in floating point computations. Implementing math functions is a sort of a hobby.

Other fields of interest include number theory (beginner's level) and 3D graphics.

I find being able to contribute to one of the most extended, available and up-to-date sources of information I use in everyday life strangely satisfying. Explaining issues to fellow wikipedia users helps me really getting to grips with subjects I thought I had mastered.

From software engineering, I like the notion of Pair Programming, where two software engineers team up, reviewing and testing each other's work and designing and implementing in a tight mutual feedback loop. I feel this is a stimulating mode of work that could be applied to 'wikipedianetics' as well. So if anyone wants to team up on an article, let me know. In that same vein, I'm quite open to criticism, which I will regard as people spending effort to improve my work.
