Wikipedia's Lack of Qualified Academics Posting
This page is in response to several articles [source needed] that identify this issue as a problem within wikipedia.
Purpose
[edit]The purpose of this page is to spark a discussion on the future polices of Wikipedia as they pertain to academic subjects.
Reasons
[edit]Any unqualified person with can change content on pages that should require validation of users qualifications to post.
ex: The other day [the current writer] corrected a Mathematical Page which had slightly incorrect information. Said writer does not have any mathematical qualifications. Said writer could've have inadvertently poisoned the page with incorrect information due to his lack of mathematical qualifications.
Solutions
[edit]Enforce qualifications for users on pages that have subjects that are academic in nature
- Create "sections" with an head moderator who can approve other moderators and allow qualified users to post based on section policies
- Automatically disable editing for all non-approved users.
What this will accomplish
[edit]- Encourage academics to post on wikipedia without the worry that the time and effort they have invested into a topic will be wiped by a anonymous user.
- Raise the quality of the content posted on the "walled sections" of wikipedia.
As of the time of this writing, the current user can edit many pages that are beyond the qualifications of said user within the mathematical sections.
