WordTheatre® is a non-profit literature salon based in Los Angeles.

History[edit]

WordTheatre® was found in 2003 by Cedering Fox to ignite a new generation of literature fans. Artistic Director, Fox creates, directs and produces the intimate storytelling events, pairing three great authors with three great actors and followed by a Q & A in monthly series. Fox collaborates with producing partner, Kirsty Peart, to produce events in the UK. In 2007, WordTheatre® became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Storytelling[edit]

Programming features established actors of theatre, film and television performing works by world class authors in Los Angeles, New York and the UK including; James Salter, Tod Goldberg, T.C. Boyle, Tobias Wolff, Ron Carlson, Russell Banks, Brad Watson, Aimee Bender, Martha Ronk, Ian Frazier, Kate Milliken, Malie Meloy, Luis Rodriguez, Marisa Silver, Stephen Tobolowsky, John Edgar Wideman, Rick Moody, Michael Cunningham, Mary Gaitskill, Amy Bloom, Mary Gordon, Don Lee, A.M. Homes, Steven Schutzman, Steve Almond, Dan Chaon, Susan Orlean, Jim Shepard, Amy Hempel, Jonathan Safran Fower, Melissa Pritchard, Helen Simpson, Rose Tremain, Julie Myerson and Nick Hornby.

Benefits[edit]

Fox creates, directs and produces benefit performances for Autism Speaks, the Macmillian Cancer Support, Minding Your Mind, Sunshine from Darkness, Fairbridge, Maternal Fetal Care International, NARSAD and the Treehouse Appeal.

Partners[edit]

WordTheatre® performances have been aired on KCRW and the Book Channel on Sirius radio. In 2007, 2008 and 2010, performances were held in the Literary Tent at the Latitude Festival in Suffolk, England. In 2010, WordTheatre® performed at the LA Times Festival of Books at the UCLA campus.


WordTheatre® LA partners with the Pushcart Prize celebrating the art of short story.


In 2010, WordTheatre® UK partnered with The Sunday Times Short Story.


WordTheatre® has a LA, NY and UK Facebook pages as well as a Twitter account.


Performances are available for sale through WordTheatre® and Harper Collins titled, Love Hurts, Family Affairs and The Wild West.
