Melissa Parade

About me

I am a graduate student currently researching the visual control of locomotion in the Perception and Action Lab at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. I have been studying Perception & Action and working towards a M.A./Ph.D in Cognitive Science since the Fall of 2010. Although quite different in focus, my M.A. and Ph.D. projects are both aimed towards understanding how humans achieve coordinated interaction with the environment by integrating non-visual information about the movement of their body with visual information about their body and the world.

I am lucky to be spending five years in Troy and the Capital District, where I enjoy camping in the Adirondacks, climbing in the Catskills, shopping at the Farmer's Market and visiting the various dance floors of Central Square. I am also nurturing two new interests in up-cycling and building model train sets; perhaps these interests intersect.

I spent the first twenty-two years of my life in Connecticut, where I was raised and educated.
