Stay The Night is an American rock band. The band was founded during 2008 in Orange County, California by three college friends, Anthony Sim (guitarist), Carlos Pinel (bassist), and Brandon Hackney (drummer) and broke up in August of 2011. Completing the picture are lead vocalist Nikki Simmons and guitarist Alex Maldonado.

History[edit]

Stay The Night started in 2008 when three college friends, Anthony Sim, Carlos Pinel, and Brandon Hackney came together to create a sincere rock band with a pop sensibility in the style of the bands they had grown up listening to. The search began for a singer, and in the fall of 2009—after much searching and auditioning—the band signed up vocalist Nikki Simmons as the lead singer and face of Stay the Night.[1] "We knew we wanted someone who could sing well, and she could, but more important than that, we wanted someone who we could get along and be friends with," lead guitarist Anthony Sim is quoted as saying.[2] "We auditioned a fair amount of people before Nikki, but when she came along we knew she was the one."

After recruiting guitarist Kevin Fifield, Stay The Night began creating music together.[1]

The band's first EP, "Against The Tides" contains five songs: "Falling In Place," "Sides" "Spinning" "Plans" and "Hey Jealousy" (a cover of the Gin Blossoms song Hey Jealousy).[3] It was recorded at Lunchbox Studios in late 2009 by engineer David "Lunchbox" Franklin, and it was mixed/mastered in Spring 2010 by Paul Miner at Buzz Bomb Sound Labs[4] and released May 7, 2010. The EP is available on iTunes, Amazon and CD Baby.

Summer 2010 brought the filming and release of the band's debut music video for their song "Falling In Place". It reached modest success on the YouTube community after a fan posted it in an entry on Paramore.net, the popular web site[5] of another alternative rock band.[6]

After a string of successful summer shows, guitarist Kevin Fifield resigned from the band to join the police academy.[1] During this time, Cody Davis (Fields Of Amber) filled in briefly for the remaining shows of 2010.

In spring 2011, Stay The Night held an open audition to find a permanent rhythm guitar player. Alex Maldonado, a friend of Nikki, was inducted into the band in March.[1]

Stay The Night entered the studio again in March 2011 to record a follow up single to "Falling In Place". According to the band's Facebook page, there are no plans for a full length record as of yet, but fans should expect a new single by summer 2011. Later in August 2011, they have parted ways and are no longer a band.[7]

Musical Style[edit]

Singer Nikki Simmons describes the band's style as "an energetic pop/rock band with hardcore influences."[8] The band's style is reminiscent of Further Seems Forever, Saves The Day, Jimmy Eat World, Acceptance (band), Shai Hulud (band).[9] The band has been compared to acts such as Hey Monday and, most famously, Paramore due in part to Nikki Simmons' appearance and vocal styling.[10][11] In a review of her other work supporting metal performer Ana Kefr, a writer described singer Nikki Simmons' voice as "radiant" and "operatic.".[12]
