From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Station is an online sketch channel on YouTube created by a number of popular Youtube celebrities in the summer of 2009.[1][2]

Creation and Growth[edit]

The Station was originally created by Lisa Donovan and Danny Diamond, the creators of the popular YouTube channel Lisa Nova, who recruited other top YouTube video creators.[3] Video-tracking site Tubemogul has noted that the founding members had already amassed almost 500 million views on YouTube collectively before starting this venture.[4]

The first video promoting the sketch channel, "The Station Is Coming", was released on July 21, 2009, and its first video, "Zombies take over Youtube", debuted on August 8, 2009.

The show became popular quickly due to the number of notable YouTuber affiliated with it. Within two weeks of the show's debut, on August 23, 2009, the Station was the 25th most subscribed channel of all time on YouTube, with over 340,000 subscribers. As of October 21, 2009, it had became the 15th most subscribed channel with over 476,000 subscribers. The station has received criticism from many for it's bland clips and seeming to live off of hype more then off of quality. a key example was the stations episode parody of "the expendables" many fans were dissapointed in a video that was low on humor and story quality.

For the month of September 2009, Mashable ranked The Station as the second most watched web show on the Internet, with over 14.7 million views for the month.[5]

There is also a Youtube channel named "The Station 2" which provides "behind the scenes" content.
