If you're spending money for old timey sms texting on a smart phone... your phone is smarter than you are! Switch to xmpp texting for: zero cost, actually fast messages, optionally secure against NSA spying with free easy OTR, freedom to xmpp text from ANY internet capable device.

xmpp texting is not a single service nor is it a brand. It is an Open Standard much older than most users of "texting" and older than most interweb devices used for "texting". Unlike old timey sms texts it is not conveyed [partially] as email.

You signup for ANY user in ANY xmpp server domain and ANY other xmpp text user in ANY other xmpp server domain can communicate using ANY xmpp texting client you please. You CONTROL who may and MAY NOT contact you with powerful privacy management (XEP-0016)

Unlike "social" media and old timey sms texting which expose you to non-consentual privacy fornication and are impossible to remove as both are cached for all eternity in one or more ways, xmpp texting when OTR encrypted are not cached by a third party, and are not absorbed by NSA machines with the mark of the beast. If you can manage the privacy controls on any popular "social" network you are well suited to weild Privacy Lists for xmpp texts. As with a mobile phone having a contact list your xmpp text app has access to your xmpp roster. You need not have a positive roster, but may instead combine roster with Privacy Lists to selectively block undersirables allowing all others. These are not the only possible configurations and one is not limited to one privacy list. Ask your xmpp server op to active Privacy Lists and verify your xmpp client properly supports Privacy Lists else contact the xmpp client developer. "Social" media does not encourage healthy social relationships instead evincing voyeurism, exibitionism, jealousy, and gossip. To maximize your privacy and personal security do not use third party "social" services and absolutely do not allow public viewership.

You have a societal obligation to encrypt! The expectation of privacy is diminished when YOU do not expect privacy. When you wrongly tolerate the adware variety of malware --unfinished essay--

old timey sms texting does not allow you to reject messages: you pay for unwanted text. Mobile carriers provide very little to nothing to protect you. If mobile carriers valued you as a customer they would have long since exposed switch functionality to smart devices to provide you IP-PBX powers for call routing and filtering (not technically challenging).

PM me your Jabber ID (xmpp account) and I'll xmpp text you, or leave your Jabber ID in my talk. If you want to protect your JID as do I mine leave a URL to a self destructing message. There are several non-storage free services. However, if you are aware of a free or free open source web software for self destructing messages or better yet for self destructing images please leave me some notes in my talk!

To find a public xmpp server interweb search: public xmpp server

I recommend free Open Source: Tigase (external), & Prosody_(software) (external)

For android mobile devices I recommend these free Open Source xmpp clients:

To find an xmpp app that is OTR capable (a necessity in this brave NSA world) for your mobile phone/table interweb search: xmpp client otr

ANY app showing 3rd party interweb ads is by construction always malware: all adware is malware. "ad supported" is antithetical to free. Do not whore your privacy as payment for software -- if for no other reason than you are feeding the NSA beast. Your disregard for your privacy erodes ALL OUR expectation of privacy.

Your dignity is worth more than a few dollars isn't it?

I've never found a more elegant expression of the value of privacy than: "Privacy is essential for free exercise of liberty" (cite). If you have nothing to hide type rhetoric is absurd on the face of it. It's not a matter of hiding from goverment: the goverment has no good reason to look. Finally all flavors of ideology have come together on privacy through EFF: progressives and freedom works. It will take effort from progressives, liberals, libertarians, and conservatives to defend privacy returning it to sacrosanct among freedom to [not] speak and freedom of [no] religion. What I own, what I think, what I speak not-publically, what I do not-publically are mine. Moreso "my data is mine" -- as it is mine I have a right to defend it as I do the right to defend life from conception to natural death. With speach and data I encrypt.

Do you encrypt your personal- and business communication? It is no longer the exclusive province of geeks! GPG for email, OTR for xmpp texting, OSTN for SIP calling (or zRTP),
