Alderman William Colles (August 30, 1702 – March 8, 1770) was an Alderman, building contractor, and entrepreneur from Kilkenny

He is known for his marble works at Millmount about 1.9 miles (3 km) downstream of Archersgrove Quarry on the outskirts of Kilkenny.[1][2] Archersgrove Quarry produced fine-grained Lower Carboniferous limestone (Butlersgrove Formation); it has become known as the Black Quarry due to the colour of the final product.[2]

Colles built and faced building with this Kilkenny Limestone, [3] such as Greensbridge and The Tholsel in Kilkenny.

Colles was an alderman of Kilkenny Corporation.[1] He held the posts of treasurer in 1746 and 1752-1753.[1] He later became Mayor of Kilkenny in 1756.[1]
