An Aisle (pronounced with a silent 'a') is a type of long narrow passageway passing between two storage structures or blocks of seating.

Churches

In a church an aisle is a row down the middle of the church with a set of pews on each side. In a cathedral-type church building, an aisle is a passageway usually on both sides of the nave and separated from the nave by a row of pillars or columns. Dependent on its position and the dimension of the church/cathedral, an aisle can vary in width from around 0.6 meter (2 feet) up to and beyond 3 meters (9.8 feet).
