Annotated Bibliography

Kathleen Fearn-Banks’s top three contributions are Crisis Communications: A Casebook Approach 2nd Edition, Crisis Communications 2nd Edition Workbook, and Crisis Communications A Casebook Approach 4th Edition.

Crisis Communications: A Casebook Approach 2nd edition incorporates a theoretical perspective at the essence if crises and functional application. This edition also includes examples that are more relatable to current generations with including cyberspace crises. The book also includes a broad range of case studies from a variety of organizations and the lessons learned from each crisis. A few organizations that are included in this book are corporations, government agencies, non-profit organizations, schools and universities, individuals, and other entities. Also, this book is based off the Crisis Communications 1st Edition that only included case based situations, not applicable steps into how to handle a crisis. Fearn-Banks emphasizes scenarios of anticipating, recognizing, reacting and responding to crises. In its entirety, the book provides a practical outline of how-to steps and information for communication scholars, and public relations professionals. [3]

Crisis Communications 2nd edition Workbook is a workbook that is accompanied with Crisis Communications 2nd Edition. This workbook is filled with discussion questions, class activities, case studies, vocabulary, and worksheets. The workbook goes along with Crisis Communications 2nd Edition. This textbook is for students to test their knowledge on crisis communication, prevention, and anticipation. Like the book it accompanies, the workbook is great for aspiring public relations professionals and communication scholars. [4]

Crisis Communications A Casebook Approach 4th Edition is based off the original Crisis Communications 1st Edition. The 4th edition contains case studies that delve into organizational, corporate, and individual crises. Also, the text covers how professionals anticipate and prepare for a potential crisis. This book specifically covers communication crises within the news media, employees, and consumers. Kathleen covers the basic how-tos of developing a proper risk crisis message by giving examples of vocabulary, method and channels of giving the message. This edition covers six new case studies, some of which are international cases, and current references to technology. [5]
