Formally known as Victoria Parks Golf Links, Neangar Park Golf Club (The aboriginal word "Neangar" meaning "resting place") was opened 2nd May, 1931, by Cr.G.W. Jenkins; Mayor of Eaglehawk, Victoria, the first ball hit on course was by the mayoress of Eaglehawk. Mr.F.M.Fitzpatrick the founding president, purchased the land in which the golf course would lay, and later sold it to the club through 1947-1964. In the mean-while, Mr Fitzpatrick, Secretary T.R.Davies, Treasurer A.J.Harris, Captain H Bourke and Vice presidents Messrs Jennings and Prowse whom developed the layout of the 18 hole sand-scrape course, featuring undulating terrains and native flora and fauna. The first 9 holes was swapped over to grass greens in 1989 and two years later so did the back 9, this was a major achievement for the committee of management.

The original clubhouse was made from ironbark logs and corrugated iron, which was replaced in 1947 and now stands a modern brick clubhouse opened in 1976. In 1979, a full liquor licence was granted and the clubhouse bar opened on the Anzac day of the same year.

Mr. Frank Prowse, formally served in World War 1 resulting in the loss of both legs remained greenkeeper. The layout of the course allowed him to manovour his wheelchair on course and he also found way arounds to continue playing the sport. Now in tribute to Mr. Prowse, there is an annual tournament held in his name. As well as Mr Prowse, Neangar Park tributes many other early members and contributors who are very much responsible for what the course is today, such as the Nell Chamberlain, Collier Matchplay, Stan Millar, Doris Chambers, Daniel Grieve, Frank Fitzpatrick, Yvonne Boyd and Bob Thomas competitions.
