Nelson Atreides Mendes

Nelson Atreides Mendes is a Canadian author and artist. He was born in London, Ontario, and is a graduate of Western University where he majored in history, and is versed in the fields of Paleoarchaeology, Physical Anthropology, Ancient Civilizations, Medieval, Early-Modern, and Modern History, as well as World Religions. He is also an oil and gas development professional who has worked extensively in Southern Ontario, Canada developing oil and natural gas fields, as well as in Alberta, Canada for Western Canadian energy giant, Penn West Exploration.

Nelson Mendes began his public writing as a monthly history and culture contributor to the Canadian lusophone magazine, Em Foco (“In Focus”), based in London, Canada in the 1990s. His first published book was From Lusitania: Abstracts from the Diaries of a Portuguese Descendant (© 1998 Epoca Editions). This is an account of his insights concerning time and humankind through the lense of Portuguese history in the form of poetry and historical allegory. His most recent work is Finding the Way: A Wanderer’s Guide to Peace and Happiness in Christ (© 2012 WestBow Press/Thomas Nelson). The book is a story of his spiritual quest, and a modern perspective of the life of Jesus of Nazareth and how His teachings can heal and solve our current fears, stresses and illnesses by going to their root – the heart. It serves as a guide for Christians seeking a deeper understanding of, and relationship with, Christ, as well a primer for those who are “spiritually lost,” wandering from one belief system to another. This work seeks to reveal the importance of placing Jesus at the center of our lives.

Nelson Mendes’ motto is:

“Never judge another for what they appear to be on the outside. Rather, accept them for what their heart is made of.”
