Biodiversity Duty[edit]

The Biodiversity Duty is the statutory duty placed upon UK public bodies and local authorities to have regard to the conservation of biodiversity during the course of their normal functions and activities. It originated from legislation in the UK Parliament in 2006 under the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006, but the biodiversity duty has since been devolved under searate legislation to the countries of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland under their individual legislation.
