Luis Rondón Paz (born July 31, 1982, in Santiago de Cuba) is a Cuban-born independent journalist, writer, and human rights activist known for his commitment to social justice and LGBT rights. He currently resides in Montreal, Quebec, and contributes part-time to the news media outlet Havana Times.
Early Life and Career in Cuba[edit]
Luis Rondón Paz was born in Santiago de Cuba in 1982. In Cuba, he led a multifaceted life, working in various professions: Between Computers Network Administrator, Tour guide, Translator including as an actor for theater and radio at the national station Radio Progreso. His activism for human rights and political reform in Cuba made him a target for surveillance and harassment by Cuban authorities.
Journalism and Contributions to Havana Times[edit]
During his time in Cuba, Luis wrote extensively for Havana Times. His articles covered a wide range of topics:
- Cultural.[1] and Political Commentary: He discussed the political dynamics between the U.S. and Cuba[2], including reactions to U.S. policies and presidents. His articles also delved into Cuban history[3] and culture, such as the architectural beauty of Trinidad[4] and the history of Cuba's Model Prison[5].
- LGBTQ+ Advocacy: Luis represented the Cuban LGBT community and participated in events such as Gay Pride week in Montreal[6][7], Quebec, Canada, and shared experiences from Florida's Gay Village[8].

Escape to Canada[edit]
In 2018, Luis escaped[16] Cuba using a multiple-entry visa to Canada. This move allowed him to continue his journalism and activism in a safer environment.

In Montreal, Luis continues to contribute to Havana Times. His articles focus on social justice and LGBT rights, highlighting issues in Cuba from his perspective in Canada.
