Personnel Motivation / Opinion[edit]
My goal is to create,along with other contributors, a highly readable version of the History of the Civil Affairs Holding and Staging Area. Care of a civilian population by an occupying force is extremely important and CASA is a noble reflection of this effort.
Current Feeling Concerning Article[edit]
The article has improved considerably since its debut. However, there is still relevant content that can be parsed and added from the History. [1].
Concerns[edit]
- Deletion of Content
I am hesitant to delete any aspect of the article because every aspect of the article seems relevant. For example, I though of eliminating Commander Boekel's observations on the preparedness of officers coming from various schools of military government. However, Commander Boekel's observations are astute and reflect the gap between academic instruction and the practical linguistic ability needed by an occupying force. In addition, some aspects of the History, like the sections on insect and rodent control or sanitation, although small, reflect the depth of CASA's work.
- Potential for Vandalism
It is ironic that CASA was concerned about providing high protein foods to the Japanese people at the very time the U.S. Army was was fire bombing Tokyo killing tens of thousands. Or, that the photos illustrated in the article were taken weeks before the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that killed over 100 thousand civilians. Over time this contrast, probably, will not be lost on some.
Needed Work[edit]
- Photo of the CASA OSS Outpost staff. Does anyone have these photos?
- Photo of Commander Boekel. Does anyone have a photo or photos of Commander Boekel?
- Photo of Deputy Commander Veeder. Does anyone have a photo of Deputy Commander Veeder?
- Addition of a section on the CASA newspaper / editorial staff.
- Addition of other relevant sections from the History.
- Correction of occasional typos, spelling and syntax throughout the article.
