The Haitian Project is a Providence, Rhode Island based Roman Catholic non-profit organization dedicated to education in Haiti. Since 1987, it has operated Louverture Cleary School, a Catholic secondary school in Croix des Bouquets, Haiti. Patrick Moynihan, brother of Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan, has been the President of The Haitian Project since 1996.[1]

History

The Haitian Project was founded in 1987 by St. Joseph's Parish in Providence, Rhode Island. The organization created Louverture Cleary School, a Catholic Secondary School in Croix des Bouquets. St. Joseph's parishioner and current Bank of America CEO, Brian Moynihan, was an early funder of the school and his involvementconvinced his younger brother, Patrick Moynihan. Patrick's brother, Brian, is the CEO of Bank of America and was his inspiration for coming to Haiti and joining The Haitian Project. The school’s $750,000 budget benefits from 1,000 donors, including Brian Moynihan, who once contributed $150,000 in Bank of America shares to keep Louverture Cleary afloat

Louverture Cleary School currently has over 350 studentsThe Society numbers about 950,000 in some 132 countries worldwide, whose members operate through "conferences". A conference may be based out of a church, community center, school, hospital, etc., and is composed of Catholic volunteers who dedicate their time and resources to help those in need in their community. Non-Catholics may join with the understanding that the society is a Catholic organization. St. John's University in New York runs the Vincentian Center for Church and Society at its Queens campus. DePaul University in Chicago derives its title and fundamental mission from St. Vincent de Paul and hosts the Vincentian Studies Institute. Niagara University located in Lewiston, New York, also derives its fundamental mission from St. Vincent de Paul and is the oldest Vincentian University in North America.
