One of the signs of homesickness is preoccupying thoughts of home. About 20% of university students and children at summer camp rate themselves as moderately homesick. However, patients in the hospital or soldiers on the battlefield may be more likely to face homesickness. There are risk factors for that make a person more likely to face homesickness. There are protective factors which can help people to cope with homesickness.
