Masudur Rahman is a distinguished diplomat from Bangladesh who has served in various significant capacities within the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On 10 March 2021, he assumed the prestigious position of High Commissioner at the Bangladesh High Commission to Nigeria. His career spans several continents, reflecting his international relations and diplomacy expertise.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Rahman pursued his electrical and electronics engineering undergraduate studies at Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), completing his degree between September 1988 and December 1995. His academic pursuits continued as he engaged in further education, notably at the National Defense College in 2018, where he completed a course intended for senior military officials of Bangladesh and other countries. During this period, Rahman also earned two postgraduate degrees: a Master of Strategy and Development Studies from the Bangladesh University of Professionals and a Master of Business Administration from the Northern University of Bangladesh.

Career[edit]

Masudur Rahman has had a distinguished career in the Bangladesh Foreign Service since 22 February 1998. His journey in diplomacy began within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he worked in both the West and Central Asia Wing and the Consular and Protocol Wing as an Assistant Secretary. Rahman's diplomatic assignments have taken him across the globe, starting in Moscow, where he served as Third Secretary and then Second Secretary. This was followed by a significant period in Bahrain as First Secretary and Counsellor from February 2001 to October 2007. His career saw further expansion in Tokyo, Japan, where, after completing Japanese language training at the Japan Foundation Osaka, he served as a Counsellor at the Bangladesh Embassy from November 2009 until July 2013.

Upon returning from Bahrain, Rahman contributed to the America and Pacific Wing and later the Foreign Secretary’s Office as Director between November 2007 and October 2009. He then held the position of Director General of West and Central Asia, Africa, from November 2015 to December 2017. He subsequently served as the Director General of the Ministry's External Publicity and ICT Wing in January 2019, showcasing his adaptability and leadership across various sectors.

Among his many diplomatic assignments was his tenure as the Consul General of Bangladesh in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, which he held from July 2013 to October 2015. Before he was appointed High Commissioner to Nigeria, he later assumed the position of Deputy Chief of Mission & Minister at the Bangladesh Embassy in Beijing on October 9, 2019. Rahman's professional background indicates his dedication and noteworthy input towards representing Bangladesh.
