Features
[edit]The Israeli news site ynet.co.il picked MoviesPlanet as one of the best movie sites for 2009[5], as well as their favorite site[6]. MoviesPlanet lets you search movies and TV shows by genre, language or title. Users can also look for new releases and upcoming movies, read movie reviews and movie news. It also provides a platform for posting links to websites offering full length movies and TV shows streaming[7]. The Sydney Morning Herald mentions in a short review that registered users can search for movie rips according to format, whether it's a cam or a screener and what quality they want the movie to be[8], rate movies, add streaming links for others, create DivX movie lists[9], share information with friends, like, comment, add polls, get in touch with other movie fanatics and browse through their movie lists[10].
Criticism
[edit]In an article posted in Haaretz the legality of MoviesPlanet.com and other database sites was questioned. MoviesPlanet dismissed the claim by saying that "links are legal"[11]. In the same article an expert on law and technology agreed, with reservations, that the site is indeed legal: "In the past, he says, sites that offered links only were fully protected. However, in recent years courts have become more stringent in their requirements."
