Once when visiting Florida, I saw the most amazing bird, the purple gallinule. The obvious derivations of that name were taken by other Wikipedia users, so I looked up the scientific name. Turns out to be Porphyrio martinicus. I am a chemist and do love those often purple molecules known as porphyrins. How cool is that.

I also enjoy visiting the United Kingdom and have often seen Moorhens there. It occurred to me that the American purple gallinule is just a louder, flashier cousin to the British moorhen.

Bazinga! We have a new Wikipedia user.

purple gallinule... ...purple porphyrin... ...P.martinicus.
