DICKINSON NOTES

Jimmy Pibble was a success in one sense that is notable me after visiting more than a hundred writers in the Library of Congress Online Catalog. The U.S. national library reports holding both U.K. and U.S. editions of the first five books (1968 to 1972; all U.S. editions within the year). Both the near-simultaneous publication and the double holding are notable here in the back pages.

In fact covering his first seven years 1968 to 1974 (relying on our list of Works), almost all 14 books were published in UK/US within the year and LC holds copies of both. ... The only exceptions to double holding are the third Changes novel (Devil's Children 1970 --no US ed. holding until 1986 Delcorte issue of all three books) and the picture book (Iron Lion 1972 [we say 1973]), US ed. only, labeled first edition. Among the eleven double holdings only three US eds. were published in the subsequent calendar year.
