History of the formation of IACE, the International Association of Commissioning Engineers. IACE is a company limited by guarantee (not-for-profit) and registered in England in 2015, but with regional offices in Aberdeen, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, and Indonesia. IACE was conceived in 2012, when a small group of Commissioning Engineers were discussing the recruitment of a Commissioning Team, and realized there was no such thing as a certificate or qualification in the discipline of "Commissioning". IACE is a professional association which embraces all types of commissioning (pre-commissioning, start-up, validation, hand-over, completions, etc.) in all industries (such as but not limited to; Oil, Gas, Petrochem, Pharmaceuticals, Built Environment, onshore/offshore, Nuclear, Water, Power, etc.) and all types of Commissioning Operatives, from technicians to managers, from software to equipment. IACE has received many communications from Commissioning Professionals around the world who unanimously express the opinion that Commissioning, as a discipline, has not been given the due recognition it deserves. At the first IACE International Management Conference in Abu Dhabi in November 2015, IACE confirmed its commitment to "putting Commissioning in its rightful place among the other disciplines", and announced the timetable for official launch in January 2016. In the meantime, IACE will be issuing personal invitations for application for the grade of "Founder Member" to senior Commissioning Professionals. IACE is preparing its Competency Framework which will be the basis of the training courses which will be available in 2016. IACE is in discussion with the various national and international accrediting authorities to achieve accredited status for the IACE courses and certification. IACE was founded by Paul Spice (currently IACE President) and Bob Kendal (currently IACE Vice President Technical). The IACE website is at www.TheIACE.com
