Vangelis is a Buffyverse fan-made production, an internet fan film that parodies the TV series Angel. .
Filming for episodes one and two finished in 2006, but the post-production process has yet to be complete. The creator, Harvey Chin said that he hoped to have the film previewed at a film festival or convention before "giving it away free via the net"[1].
Vangelis is important to Buffyverse fans as one of only two Angel fan films (the other is Cherub). A trailer to "Vangelis" was posted on YouTube in May 2006, within three months the trailer had already received almost 5, 000 views[2]. The project has also received attention from the Buffyverse fanbase elsewhere on the internet: for example being mentioned on Week in Whedon podcast, and on Whedonesque.

Crew
[edit]Writer and Director: Harvey Chin
Continuity
[edit]- The series is set in a fictional universe running parallel to the Buffyverse, both fictional universes have things in common (for example the existence of vampires..).
Canonical issues
[edit]- Buffyverse fan-made productions, such as this are not considered by fans as part of canon. They are not viewed as official Buffyverse reality, but are stories from the fans' imaginations.
Cultural references
[edit]- Angel - The entire project is a satire on this television series. Characters include Vangelis (parodying Angel), Leslie (parodying Wesley), Cornelia (parodying Cordelia), Funne (parodying Gunn), George (parodying Fred) and Muffin the Turtle Killer (parodying Buffy the Vampire Slayer). The project also includes a parody of Wolfram and Hart: Wolfee and Mann.
- Chariots of Fire - The creator of the project described this as "one of [his] favorite films of all time.. "Vangelis" the name is partially inspired by "Vangelis" the composer and the credit frame from "Chariots of Fire".[3]
Undeveloped ideas
[edit]Unused plots
[edit]The creator of this project has admitted that there are 2 ideas he had hoped to cover but was unable to during filming. These ideas may yet be used in a comic book version.
- "HE-MAN" - Leslie (Wesley) stubs his toe in fighting an enemy, and ends up in the emergency care, all alone and poorly treated by an uncaring hospital staff there. He grows bitter because no one visited him, and he stops shaving and bathing and is now transformed into a 'new' Leslie, who overcompensates for his weakness by posing in a he-man pose and grabbing his crotch every five minutes to emphasis his newfound extra-testosterone maleness".
- "OFFICE POLITICS"- Once Vangelis (Angel) and crew take over Wolfee and Mann associates, the group disintegrates by being petty over various disagreements in the office- who has a bigger office, inadequate dental insurance (they don't include whitening vampire teeth), pay raises, and who takes out the trash at the end of the day. The firm finally disintegrates at the end of the episode when the overflowing toilet finally causes a major water leak under the building".[4]
Muffin the Turtle Killer 2
[edit]Muffin the Turtle Killer was initially planned as a prequel to "Vangelis", and a parody to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but only five scenes were completed and the project was "put on the shelf because too many cast members simply moved out of town"[5].
All of the scenes are available on YouTube[6].
Characters
- Muffin the Turtle Killer, her potential love interest Vaneglis, her school counselor 'Niles', her classmate Cornelia, and her two schools friends Sparrow and Xippy.
Story
- Vangelis and Cornelia are abducted by alien turtle vampires who are planning to conquer Earth. As Vangelis and Cornelia bond despite their circumstances, Muffin and company plan their rescue. A battle ensues, and Vangelis and Cornelia escape.
